Parker honored for her academic and athletic excellence. |

Mary Parker, a senior at the University of
Detroit Mercy, has completed her college soccer career by
earning a distinguished variety of awards that recognize her
hard work both on the soccer field and in the classroom.
The Vardarstars Soccer Club take great pride
in Mary’s accomplishments and urge all of our players to
excel as Mary has, both in the classroom and on the soccer
field.
Thank you Mary, for being a wonderful role
model for all our club members- especially the young women
that will follow in your footsteps.

Women's Soccer Player Of The
Year Parker Named To All-Region Team

SoccerBuzz.com, the nation's premiere
on-line soccer magazine, announced today that Detroit senior
Mary Parker has been selected to the publication's
All-Great Lakes Region First-Team. This marks the third
straight year that Parker has been selected to the
magazine's award list.
Parker (Troy, MI/Athens HS) truly saved
her best for last, picking up Horizon League Player of the
Year accolades for the second time in her career, while
leading the league in goals (17), points (40), goals per
game (0.81) and points per game (1.8). Both of her per game
averages ranked her in the top-10 nationally in their
respective categories.

In addition to being named Player of the
Year, Parker also became just the fifth player in conference
history to garner First-Team All-League honors four times
and is the first player to be named to the League
Championship All-Tournament Team four times. Earlier this
month, she became the first Detroit athlete to be named
First-Team Academic All-America.
Parker closed her career with 47 goals, 17
assists and 111 points, becoming just the 12th player in the
history of the league to pass the 100-point mark. Her 47
goals rank her third all-time at Detroit, and her 111 points
places her fourth. In addition, her 17 assists is good for
seventh in program history.
Soccer Buzz is the exclusive magazine on
the Internet devoted to women's collegiate soccer at the
NCAA Division 1 level.
Detroit finished the season at 10-11 and
appeared in the Horizon League Championship match for the
fourth straight season.

Academic Awards

The National Soccer Coaches Association of
America (NSCAA) announced its 2006 Academic Awards today and
Detroit senior Mary Parker was named to the
organization's All-Central Region Scholar Team. In addition
to Parker's individual award, the Titans as a team were
honored for their team grade point average (GPA) of 3.20
with the NSCAA's Team Academic Award.
Parker's award is just the latest in a long
line of awards for the midfielder. The four time All-League
selection was tabbed to the NSCAA's Scholar All-Central
Region team after posting a 3.8 GPA in chemistry and
pre-med.

Earlier this month, Parker (Troy,
MI/Athens HS) was named to the ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-America First Team as well as the Horizon
League All-Academic team. Parker was also the 2006 Horizon
League Player of the Year and was named to the SoccerBuzz.com All-Great Lakes Region First Team. Parker was
selected from players at all levels of collegiate soccer
which includes NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and the junior
college ranks.
As a team, the Titans garnered selection
for the Team Academic Award after posting a cumulative team
GPA of 3.20 for the 2005-06 academic year. The team was
bolstered by 13 selections to the Athletic Director's Honor
Roll as well as eight selections to the Horizon League Honor
Roll. Detroit was one of six Horizon League schools to be
honored with the award
