1988 VARDARSOCCER BOYS FINALISTS AT USL SUPER-Y-LEAGUE
NATIONALS
1988 VARDARSOCCER BOYS came
in first place in the USL Super-Y-League Midwest Division
with a 7-0-1 record. This led to the North American Finals
to compete in the National Championship in Orlando, Fl,
November 19-23.
There were 16 teams in this
age group competing for the Championship. They won their
first game with Ruckus Soccer 4 – 1 with Charles Watts
scoring twice for Vardar with the first coming off of a
corner kick, Brad Randolph and James Miller also scored,
with assists by Rosenhagen, Schaefer, Getzen and Merritt.
Saturday’s competition was with the Metro Stars (New Jersey)
we tied 2-2. Andy Chun and Bobby Merritt scored with assists
from Getzen and Rosenhagen. Sunday with Reading Rage we were
able to prevail 4-0. James Miller, James Getzen, John
Schaefer and Nick Dreshaj scored, assists came from Chun,
Reyes, Henderson, Pruitt. This brought us on to the
Semifinals, playing Cosmopolitan Rough Riders with a 1-0 win
with a goal by Jesse Henderson.
We ended the tournament as
Finalists with the final score of 0-1 against the Chicago
Magic. Coach Hicklin did a fine job coaching the team that
included Eric Alexander (Portage), Andy Chun (Rochester
Hills), Nick Dreshaj (Clinton Township), James Getzen
(Pinckney), James Harris (Birmingham), Jesse Henderson (West
Bloomfield), Bobby Merritt (Livonia), Jordan Miller
(Mattawan), Luis Pacheco (Rochester), Christopher Pruitt
(Canton), Brad Randolph (Farmington Hills), Zachary Reyes
(Holly), Tyler Rosenhagen (Schoolcraft), John Schaefer
(Troy), Eric Staver (Portage), Tim Taylor (Farmington Hills)
and Charles Watts (Ann Arbor).
